Step by step
earnings of the 12 months = monthly gross × 12 months
earnings of the 12 months = 12 × 45,000.00 = 540,000.00 TRY
daily earnings = earnings of the 12 months / premium days
daily earnings = 540,000.00 / 360 = 1,500.00 TRY
Daily pay
outpatient daily pay = daily earnings × 2/3
outpatient daily pay = 1,500.00 × 2/3 = 1,000.00 TRY
Paid days
paid days = report days − unpaid days
paid days = 10 − 2 (2026-09-07 – 2026-09-16) = 8 days
Total sick pay
total pay = Σ paid days × daily pay
total pay = 8 × 1,000.00 = 8,000.00 TRY
How to use
- Choose the Reason for the report: illness, work accident, occupational disease or birth. For a work accident, enter the date of the accident too; for a birth, the date of birth.
- Choose the Treatment: outpatient, inpatient, or hospital first and then at home. For a mixed report, enter the days in hospital.
- Enter the dates on the report in Report start and Report end. If an illness report continues the previous one without a gap, choose the continued report in Report.
- Enter your earnings as a Gross monthly wage, or as the Total of 12 months from the SGK service statement on e-Devlet. Enter the premium days of the same months in Premium days in the last 12 months.
- If you are self-employed under Bağ-Kur, choose 4/b as the Insurance status under More options.
- Press Calculate.
Formula
daily earnings = earnings of the last 12 months on which premiums were paid / premium days
daily pay = daily earnings × 2/3 (outpatient) or × 1/2 (inpatient)
total = paid days × daily pay
- Last 12 months: the 12 calendar months before the month of the report (of the accident for a work accident, of the birth for a birth). The earnings of each month cannot pass that month’s SGK ceiling.
- 180-day limit: with fewer than 180 premium days in the 12 months, the daily earnings cannot pass twice the daily SGK floor on the first day of the report.
- Floor: the daily earnings cannot be below the SGK floor of each paid day. Every period of the floor and the ceiling is in the SGK floor and ceiling table.
- Paid days: for illness, the first 2 days of a new report are not paid; for the other reasons every day is paid.
Worked example
The example on this page shows a worker with a gross wage of 45,000 TRY a month in the last 12 months and a 10-day outpatient illness report in September 2026. The daily earnings are the 12 months of earnings divided by 360 premium days. The first 2 days are not paid; the other 8 days get two thirds of the daily earnings.
Limits
The calculator applies the rule that takes the daily earnings from the last 12 months: for illness and birth, reports that end on or after 22 April 2021; for a work accident or an occupational disease, accidents or reports on or after 21 December 2024. It leaves out the 50% limit on bonuses and other one-off payments, the days of a long birth leave that SGK pays from sickness insurance, and anything the employer pays. It does not check the premium debts of a 4/b (Bağ-Kur) insured, and it does not cover civil servants (4/c). The report days are reported as missing days on the payslip and SGK pays their benefit; the net salary of that month comes from the days worked.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is sick pay calculated in Türkiye?
The earnings on which premiums were paid in the 12 months before the month of the report are divided by their premium days; this is the daily earnings. SGK pays two thirds of it for each outpatient day and one half for each inpatient day (Law 5510 art. 17 and 18).
Are the first 2 days of a sick report paid?
Not for illness: SGK pays from the 3rd day of the report. A report that continues the previous one without a gap does not lose the 2 days again. Work accident, occupational disease and birth reports are paid from the first day.
How many premium days do I need for sick pay?
For illness, at least 90 days of short-term insurance premium in the year before the report; for a birth, 90 days in the year before the birth. A work accident or an occupational disease needs no premium days.
How much sick pay does a minimum wage worker get?
The daily earnings cannot be below the SGK floor. In 2026 the daily floor is 1,101 TRY, so a minimum wage worker gets 734 TRY a day as an outpatient and 550.50 TRY a day in hospital.
When and where is sick pay paid?
SGK sends the pay to its contracted banks after the employer reports the report days as not worked; you do not need to apply. For a report longer than 10 days, you can ask the employer to report it in 10-day parts to get the pay in 10-day parts (SGK Circular 2016/21).
Do self-employed (4/b, Bağ-Kur) people get sick pay?
Not for illness. For a work accident or an occupational disease, only the hospital days and the rest after them are paid; a birth is paid. Every premium debt, general health insurance included, must be paid (Law 5510 art. 18).
Does the employer pay wages during a sick report?
The law does not make the employer pay wages during the report. The employment contract or a collective agreement can give the full wage or the difference to the SGK pay.
Calculation rules
- Sick pay (rapor parası) is the temporary incapacity benefit of Law no. 5510 art. 18, paid by SGK. It is two thirds of the daily earnings for outpatient treatment and one half for inpatient treatment. For a birth (maternity) report the calculator uses two thirds. For a birth, the 12 months count back from the month of the birth since 21 December 2024 (Law no. 7537); for an earlier birth they counted back from the month of the report (Law no. 7316).
- Daily earnings (art. 17): the total earnings on which premiums were paid in the 12 calendar months before the month of the report (of the accident for a work accident, of the birth for maternity), divided by their premium days. With a gross monthly wage, the calculator puts the premium days in the latest months, 30 a month, and caps each month at that month’s SGK ceiling. It does not apply the law’s 50% limit on bonuses and other one-off payments.
- With fewer than 180 premium days in the 12 months, the daily earnings cannot pass twice the daily SGK floor on the first day of the report. The daily earnings are never below the SGK floor of each paid day either: when a report runs into a new year, the days of the new year are paid on the new floor.
- For illness, the pay starts on the 3rd day of the report and needs at least 90 days of short-term insurance premium in the year before the report. A report that continues the previous one without a gap does not lose those 2 days again. A work accident or an occupational disease is paid from the first day, with no premium day condition. A birth needs 90 premium days in the year before the birth.
- The calculator applies the 12-month rule: for illness and maternity, reports that end on or after 22 April 2021 (Law no. 7316); for a work accident or an occupational disease, accidents or reports on or after 21 December 2024 (Law no. 7537). Before, the earnings of the last 3 months were used; the calculator does not cover those reports.
- In a mixed report, the calculator puts the hospital days at the start; SGK too starts the rest at home on the day after discharge. The daily pay is rounded to the kuruş, and the total is the daily pay times the days. For a year whose SGK floor is not yet known, the last known floor is used.
- A 4/b (Bağ-Kur) insured gets no pay for illness. For a work accident or an occupational disease, the pay covers the inpatient treatment and the rest given as part of that treatment; an outpatient report alone is not paid. Maternity has no inpatient condition. A 4/b insured gets the pay only when every premium debt, general health insurance included, is paid (art. 18; SGK Circular 2016/21 § 6.1.7). The calculator does not check debts. It does not cover civil servants (4/c).
- The employer does not have to pay wages during the report; the employment contract or a collective agreement can give the full wage or the difference to the SGK pay. Workplaces with a collective agreement and public employers can pay the benefit for SGK and settle with SGK later (art. 18). The calculator does not include what the employer pays.
