Time Card Calculator: Total Hours Worked
By Hesaplayıcı
The time card calculator adds up the hours worked from each day's start time, end time and break. There is no limit on the days: the page opens with one week, and Add day adds as many days as you need. The total comes in hours and minutes, decimal hours and minutes, and a table shows each day.
Worked example: A five-day time card with a lunch break
Total worked
35 h 30 min
- Decimal hours
- 35.5 hours
- Total minutes
- 2,130 min
- Days worked
- 5 days
- Daily average
- 7.1 hours
Step by step
day 1 = end − start − break
17:30 − 08:30 − 60 min = 480 min
day 2 = end − start − break
18:00 − 08:30 − 60 min = 510 min
day 3 = end − start − break
18:15 − 09:00 − 60 min = 495 min
day 4 = end − start − break
16:15 − 08:45 − 30 min = 420 min
day 5 = end − start − break
13:00 − 09:00 − 15 min = 225 min
Total minutes
total = sum of the days
480 + 510 + 495 + 420 + 225 = 2,130 min
Decimal hours
decimal hours = minutes / 60
2,130 / 60 = 35.5 hours
Daily average
daily average = decimal hours / days worked
35.5 / 5 = 7.1 hours
How to use
- For each day, enter the Start and End time: the hour and the minutes go in their own boxes. On English pages, the Clock field switches to the 12-hour clock with AM and PM.
- Enter the unpaid break in the Break column in minutes. Leave it empty when there is none.
- Leave the days you did not work empty; empty days do not count. Press Add day for more days.
- Press Calculate. The table below the total shows each day; you can download it as CSV.
Formula
Daily work = end − start − break(+ 24 hoursif the end is earlier than the start)Total = sum of the daily workDecimal hours = total minutes / 60Daily average = decimal hours / days worked
The times become minutes after midnight before they are subtracted: 17:30 is 17 × 60 + 30 = 1,050 minutes. 24:00 is the end of the day. Decimal hours are the minutes divided by 60: 30 minutes is 0.5 hours.
Worked example
The example on the page is a five-day week: four full days and one half day, each with a lunch break. The steps show each day, the total, the decimal hours and the daily average. The guide to hours worked explains the formula step by step.
Limits
The calculator computes no pay and no overtime. For Turkish overtime pay above 45 hours a week, enter the decimal hours in the Türkiye overtime calculator. One day is at most 24 hours; split a 24-hour shift into two days. Seconds, dates and time zones are not used; on a night with a daylight saving change, the real time differs by 1 hour. On a card longer than 31 days, the steps show the total only.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a time card?
A time card is the record of when a worker starts and ends each day and how long the breaks are. The days are added up; payroll and overtime use the total.
How many days can I enter?
The page opens with 7 days, one week. Press Add day for as many days as you need; the calculator adds up to a year, 366 days.
How do I enter a night shift?
Enter an end time earlier than the start; the calculator counts the end on the next day. 22:00 to 06:00 is 8 hours. For a shift that ends at midnight, enter 24:00.
Is the break taken off the hours worked?
Yes. An unpaid break is not working time. Enter the break of each day in minutes; the calculator takes it off that day.
Calculation rules
- Times are on the 24-hour clock; choose the 12-hour clock in the Clock field to enter 5:30 PM. An end before the start is on the next day: 22:00 to 06:00 is 8 hours. 24:00 is the end of the day.
- A break comes off the time of its day and cannot be longer than that time. When the start and the end are the same, that day is 0; split a 24-hour shift into two days.
- Decimal hours are the minutes divided by 60: 8 hours 30 minutes is 8.5 hours. The page rounds to two decimals; adding the rounded hours of each day can differ from the total by a few hundredths.
- The calculator computes no pay and no overtime, and uses no seconds, dates or time zones. On a card longer than 31 days the steps show the total only; every day is in the table.
