Percentage Calculator

By Hesaplayıcı

The percentage calculator finds a percentage of a number and shows the value after an increase or a discount by the same percentage. Enter the number and the percentage; the part is number × percentage ÷ 100. Use it for prices, raises, discounts or commissions. It does not calculate the percentage change between two numbers.

Worked example: 20% of 1,000

Percentage of amount

200

After increase
1,200
After discount
800
Step by step
  1. Percentage of amount

    part = amount × percent / 100

    part = 1,000 × 20 / 100 = 200

How to use

  1. Enter the initial amount.
  2. Enter the percentage; for 20%, type 20.
  3. Press Calculate. You get the part, the value after the increase and the value after the discount.

Formula

part = amount × percent / 100. The value after an increase is amount + part, and the value after a discount is amount − part.

Worked example

The worked example on this page runs the calculator’s first example with the formula step. When you calculate with your own values, the same step appears in the result.

Limits

The calculator does not calculate the percentage change between two numbers or what percentage one number is of another. Negative numbers and percentages above 100% are allowed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a percentage?

A percentage is a number expressed as a fraction of 100 and written with the % sign. For example, 25% means twenty-five hundredths, or one quarter.

How do you calculate a percentage of a number?

Multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100. For example, 20% of 50 is (50 × 20) ÷ 100 = 10.

How do you calculate a percentage increase or discount?

First find the part. For an increase, add it to the number; for a discount, subtract it. For example, a 15% discount on 200 is 200 × 15 ÷ 100 = 30, so the result is 200 − 30 = 170.
