What Is a Time Card?

Definition

Time Card: The record of when a worker starts and ends each day and how long the breaks are. The daily times are added up; pay, overtime and leave are computed from the total.

A time card is the record of when a worker starts and ends each day and how long the breaks are. The time worked each day is the end minus the start and the break, and the days are added up. Pay, overtime and leave are computed from the total. It can be paper, a card reader or software.

Where it appears in the formulas

daily work = end − start − break and total = sum of the daily work. Example: 08:30 to 17:30 with a 60-minute break is 540 − 60 = 480 minutes, or 8 hours. Before it is multiplied by a pay rate, the total becomes decimal hours. Add up your own time card with the time card calculator.

In Türkiye

Under Article 63 of Labour Law No. 4857, working time is at most 45 hours a week; the weekly total of the time card is compared with this limit. Under Article 68, rest breaks are not working time, so the time card takes them off. Time over 45 hours is overtime.
