The motor vehicle tax (MTV, motorlu taşıtlar vergisi) is a yearly tax on the owner of a car, motorcycle, minibus, panel van, bus or pickup in Türkiye’s traffic register, and of aircraft (Law no. 197). The amount comes from a yearly tariff by vehicle type, engine volume or motor power, age and, for a newer car, its value.
Where it appears in the formulas
The motor vehicle tax calculator uses yearly MTV = tariff amount (row, age group) and installment = yearly MTV / 2. A vehicle is 1 year old in its model year. For a car first registered on 1 January 2018 or later, the vehicle value (with the special consumption tax, without VAT) picks the row by the limits of the first registration year; older cars are taxed under tariff (I/A) by engine volume and age only.
When is it paid?
The tax is paid in two equal installments, in January and July (art. 9). A vehicle first registered during the year pays the whole year when registered January–June and only the second half when registered July–December. The amounts rise each year by the revaluation rate or by a rate the President sets; every year’s amounts are on the MTV by year page.
