Gram (g): A unit of mass, symbol g, equal to one thousandth of the kilogram, the SI base unit of mass. It is used on food labels, in recipes and for small everyday weights.
The gram (symbol g) is a unit of mass equal to one thousandth of a kilogram. In the SI the base unit of mass is the kilogram, but units such as the milligram and the kilogram are named by adding prefixes to the gram. Food labels, recipes and small scales use grams. The weight converter also works in grams.
Where it appears in the formulas
1 g = 0.001 kg = 1,000 mg. The weight converter stores the size of every unit in grams and uses factor = grams in one from unit ÷ grams in one to unit. For example, 100 grams is about 3.5274 ounces, and 1 gram is about 0.03527 ounces.
