What Is Temporary Incapacity Benefit in Türkiye?
Region: Türkiye
Definition
Temporary Incapacity Benefit: The daily pay that SGK, the Turkish social security institution, gives an insured person on a medical report for illness, a work accident, an occupational disease or a birth. Called rapor parası in Turkish; two thirds of the daily earnings for outpatient treatment, one half for inpatient.
The temporary incapacity benefit (geçici iş göremezlik ödeneği) is the money SGK pays an insured person in Türkiye for each day of a medical report for illness, a work accident, an occupational disease or a birth: sick pay. Under Law 5510 art. 18 it is two thirds of the daily earnings for outpatient treatment and one half for inpatient treatment.
Where it appears in the formulas
The sick pay calculator first works out daily earnings = earnings of the last 12 months on which premiums were paid / premium days, then daily pay = daily earnings × 2/3 (outpatient) or × 1/2 (inpatient). For example, a person with 540,000 TRY of earnings and 360 premium days in 12 months has daily earnings of 1,500 TRY and an outpatient daily pay of 1,000 TRY.
Who gets it, and for which days?
For illness, it is paid from the 3rd day of the report and needs at least 90 premium days in the year before the report. A work accident or an occupational disease is paid from the first day, with no premium day condition. A birth needs 90 premium days in the year before the birth. With fewer than 180 premium days in the 12 months, the daily earnings cannot pass twice the daily SGK floor.
