Short answer
Notice pay in Türkiye (ihbar tazminatı) is the gross wage of the notice period, owed by whoever ends the contract without notice: divide the gross monthly wage plus benefits by 30 and multiply by notice days. The period is 2 to 8 weeks, by service. For example, 2.5 years at 50,000 TRY gross, 15% bracket, gives 58,968.70 TRY net.
Formula
gross notice pay = (gross wage + benefits) / 30 × weeks × 7
net notice pay = gross − gross × bracket rate − gross × 7.59 per mille
- gross wage: the last monthly gross wage
- benefits: the monthly total of regular payments such as meals, transport and a twelfth of the yearly bonus
- weeks: the notice period of Labour Law no. 4857 art. 17;
weeks × 7is the number of notice days - bracket rate: the income tax rate your cumulative wage base of the year has reached
- 7.59 per mille: the stamp duty rate on wage payments
No social security premium is deducted from notice pay (Law 5510 art. 80). Unlike severance pay, there is no ceiling.
Step-by-step example
Start date 1 March 2024, end date 1 September 2026; last gross wage 50,000 TRY, no benefits, 15% bracket:
- Service is 2 years 6 months. From 1.5 to 3 years the notice period is 6 weeks: 6 × 7 = 42 days.
- Daily gross wage: 50,000 / 30 = 1,666.67 TRY.
- Gross notice pay: 50,000 / 30 × 42 = 70,000 TRY.
- Income tax: 70,000 × 15% = 10,500 TRY.
- Stamp duty: 70,000 × 7.59 per mille = 531.30 TRY.
- Net notice pay: 70,000 − 10,500 − 531.30 = 58,968.70 TRY.
Notice pay by length of service
Last gross wage 50,000 TRY, end date 1 September 2026, 15% bracket:
| Service | Notice period | Gross notice pay | Net notice pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 6 months (5 months) | 2 weeks (14 days) | 23,333.33 TRY | 19,656.23 TRY |
| 6 months – 1.5 years (1 year 3 months) | 4 weeks (28 days) | 46,666.67 TRY | 39,312.47 TRY |
| 1.5 – 3 years (2 years 6 months) | 6 weeks (42 days) | 70,000 TRY | 58,968.70 TRY |
| More than 3 years (5 years) | 8 weeks (56 days) | 93,333.33 TRY | 78,624.93 TRY |
Limits and common mistakes
- Periods at the limits: the calculator counts exactly 6 months as 4 weeks, exactly 1.5 years as 6 weeks and exactly 3 years as 6 weeks; the law gives 8 weeks for “more than three years”. Some lawyers give 8 weeks at exactly 3 years.
- One tax rate: if the pay pushes your base into the next bracket, the real tax is higher. The calculator also leaves out the unused minimum wage exemption of the month.
- Who pays: both employers and employees can owe notice pay. An employee who resigns without notice can owe it to the employer.
- Mixing it up with severance pay: notice pay needs no year of service and is subject to income tax; severance pay needs at least one year and only stamp duty is deducted.

Step by step
Notice period
notice period (days) = weeks × 7
notice period (days) = 6 × 7 = 42
Daily gross wage
daily gross wage = (gross wage + benefits) / 30
daily gross wage = 50,000 / 30 = 1,666.67
Gross notice pay
gross notice pay = (gross wage + benefits) / 30 × notice period (days)
gross notice pay = 50,000 / 30 × 42 = 70,000
Income tax
income tax = gross notice pay × 15%
income tax = 70,000 × 15% = 10,500
Stamp duty
stamp duty = gross notice pay × 7.59 per mille
stamp duty = 70,000 × 7.59 per mille = 531.3
Net notice pay
net notice pay = gross notice pay − income tax − stamp duty
net notice pay = 70,000 − 10,500 − 531.3 = 58,968.7
