Clocks Go Back in Europe on 25 October, Not in Türkiye
Region: TürkiyeHesaplayıcı
Europe puts its clocks back one hour on Sunday 25 October 2026. Türkiye does not change its clocks: it has kept UTC+3 all year since 2016. So after 25 October the time difference with Germany grows from 1 hour to 2, and with the United Kingdom from 2 hours to 3.
When do the clocks go back in Europe?
The EU countries and the United Kingdom put their clocks back one hour on the last Sunday of October, at 01:00 UTC (Directive 2000/84/EC). That is 04:00 in Türkiye. In Germany 03:00 becomes 02:00, in the UK 02:00 becomes 01:00. The clocks go forward again on Sunday 28 March 2027.
Why does Türkiye not change its clocks?
Until 2016 Türkiye changed its clocks with Europe in March and October. A Council of Ministers decision, published in the Official Gazette on 8 September 2016, kept summer time all year; since then Türkiye has stayed at UTC+3. Phones and computers set to the Istanbul time zone do not change. A device set by hand to a European city follows that city’s clock.
How does the time difference change?
The difference with Türkiye after 25 October:
- Germany, France, the Netherlands: 2 hours instead of 1
- The United Kingdom: 3 hours instead of 2
- Greece, Bulgaria: 1 hour instead of none
- The US east coast (New York): 7 hours; the US puts its clocks back on Sunday 1 November, and from then the difference is 8 hours
- Russia (Moscow): none; Moscow does not change its clocks either
Use this difference for meetings and flights given in local time: after 25 October a 10:00 meeting in Berlin is at 12:00 in Türkiye. These differences hold until 28 March 2027, when the gap with Europe shrinks by one hour again.
How time zones work is explained in the time zone entry.
