Compulsory earthquake insurance (zorunlu deprem sigortası) is the statutory Turkish insurance of residential buildings against earthquake damage and the fire, explosion, tsunami and landslide an earthquake causes (Disaster Insurance Law no. 6305). The Natural Disaster Insurance Institution (DASK) runs it. A policy lasts one year and is renewed every year.

Where it appears in the formulas

The DASK calculator applies the tariff: insured sum = min(gross area × cost per m²; maximum cover) and premium = max(insured sum × per mille rate; minimum premium). The cost per m² depends on the building class, the rate on the earthquake risk group and the class. The amounts change every month.

What it covers

The policy covers the building only; contents and loss of rent are not covered. Each claim pays after a deductible of 2% of the insured sum. For value above the maximum cover, insurers sell voluntary earthquake cover.
