Republic Day 2026 in Türkiye: Days Off and Working Days

Republic Day falls on a Thursday in 2026, the 103rd anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye. The public holiday starts at 13:00 on Wednesday 28 October and ends on the evening of Thursday 29 October: 1.5 days in all. Friday 30 October is a normal working day, so the holiday does not join the weekend.

When does the holiday start and end?

Under Law 2429, Republic Day starts at 13:00 on 28 October and ends at the end of 29 October. On the morning of 28 October workplaces and public offices are open as usual, and schools teach until 13:00.

• Wednesday 28 October: normal hours until 13:00, then a holiday
• Thursday 29 October: a whole day off
• Friday 30 October: a normal working day

Is 30 October a day off?

Friday 30 October is the one working day between the holiday and the weekend. As of 4 October 2026, no administrative leave has been announced for it. Such leave would cover public servants only; in the private sector 30 October stays a working day unless the employer gives the day off. One day of annual leave on 30 October gives a break of 4.5 days, from the afternoon of 28 October to Sunday 1 November.

What is the pay for working on the holiday?

Whether a workplace works on national and general holidays is set by the collective agreement or the employment contract; without such a clause the worker must agree (Labour Law, art. 44). A worker who does not work on the holiday gets the day’s wage in full. A worker who works gets one more day’s wage for each day worked (art. 47); the afternoon of 28 October counts as half a day.

An example from the overtime calculator: the 2026 gross minimum wage is 33,030 TRY, a daily wage of 1,101 TRY. A minimum wage worker who works on 29 October gets 1,101 TRY more, and 1,651.50 TRY more in gross pay with the afternoon of 28 October.

How many working days are there in October 2026?

October 2026 has 20.5 working days for a Monday–Friday worker: 22 weekdays, less 29 October in full and half of 28 October. With Saturday as a working day it has 25.5.

Last year 29 October was a Wednesday. In 2027 it is a Friday: the holiday starts on the afternoon of Thursday 28 October 2027 and, with the weekend, lasts 3.5 days.
